From digital modeling to tangible materials,
from automobile styling design
to friend’s album cover graphic.
And jewelries.
Who doesn’t love jewelries?
As product designers,
we are always assigned the mission
to solve problems like wizards.
Sometimes I tend to look at the systems
in which products live.
I like to believe that
on top of productivity,
designers should still be encouraged
to think, to ask questions
and to be critical of norms.
I do traditional product design, critical design,
a little bit graphic design, film and animation.
I work with both tangible materials and digital tools, including wood, metal, plastic, paper, laser cutter, 3D-printer, CNC,
digital modeling programs like Rhino, Solidworks, MAYA, Alias…
As a designer, being able to learn fast is my favorite skill.
I take design communication very seriously.
I believe that most things are relative.
There shouldn’t always be “a right answer” or “the best solution”, for which a lot of my projects are experimental and open-ended.
I like doing things I am passionate about.
And I like thinking.
I think a lot.
I spent 22 years in Beijing, China before I came to the US.
Multi-culture background makes me more sensitive to things that most people take for granted. It also helps me look at situations from different perspectives.
My name, Jingwei, means latitude and longitude in Chinese.
