Trash recycle is something that I never learned until I came to the US. It confused me when I saw people in my neighborhood carry out recyclables with plastic bags which aren't recyclable itself.
After researching the Rhode Island Recycling Center I realized that the problem isn’t that people don’t recycle, it’s that most people are recycling wrong. Recycle is a business, only trash that is recycled properly could be processed into materials acceptable to buyers. So I designed a recycle system for providence to lead people recycling in a proper way. I developed a way to turn the packaging of daily groceries into trash bags for recyclables. To make it more rewarding to recycle, I tried to incorporate playfulness like origami and local comic artists ino this redesigned system.
I like to believe the good in people, especially in providence. This project is just a little twist on the existing system to make “the right way” more accessible.
